I really really want this car sharing program to be started here on O'ahu. As a faithful bus rider/walker, I still find times when it would be useful to have a car at my disposal--and much safer than riding the bus at night.

It's definitely difficult to travel by rail in the U.S. when the transportation system isn't consolidated. It's hard to shift from bus to car to train without having to look up various schedules and buy different passes and rearrange your time. When I was in Europe, you could hop on a city tram, which took you to a bus, then to a train, then to the airport without much delay, complication, or confusion. Hopefully the money allocated to the rail system will also aid in making transportation in the U.S. more streamlined as well.

heavy metals are exrtremely dangerous to the digestive tract and the brain in all individuals, especially the young and the elderly.

aluminum poisioing should be limited in cookware, and helath choices. www.californiaearthminerals.com worked for me in my battle with mercury and aluminum poisioing.

Some interesting ideas for student recipies, one of my favourites was just to add lots of chilli to every dish to disguise my bad cooking!

I'm leaving this comment on your blog because we share some of the same values of organic, sustainable farming and the support of local family farms. I am trying to get the word out to the public regarding the plight of my friends, Jim and Linette Crosby. Their mint farm, which has been in their family since 1912 and is one of the oldest continually operating mint farms in the country, is scheduled to be foreclosed upon on August 15, 2009...ironically, during the annual St. Johns Mint Festival. To read about the "Battle of Mint Valley," please visit www.peppermintjim.wordpress.com. I am asking for any help you can provide...notifying your readers of their plight, publicizing their website (www.getmint.com) and the National Dram Sale, advertising the Mint Jam '09 benefit concert...anything at all is much, much, much appreciated! To see the latest news broadcast about the Crosby Mint Farm and it's current situation, please visit http://www.wlaj.com/news/span-16641-farm-mint.html?referrer=facebook.

Also consider solar ovens and solar combo ovens - we've lived with several brands with good success, and if you use them lots they will payback fastest. There is a solar cooking e-mail list to help you learn to use or make one.

GE has a unique combination oven called the Trivection Oven, which combines conventional electric resistance heat, convection cooking and microwave capacities into one wall unit. This combo seems to cook in record time, though without something like Energy Start comparison charts it is very difficult to tell.

Another great resource for sustainable products is using Douglas fir flooring milled from old-growth boomstick logs rediscovered in the Columbia River. Tight grained, beautiful mineral staining, and affordable.

Giving old logs a second life.
